The AGA Cooker
Cook better. Live Better.
You've seen these in every BBC period piece, Martha Stewart has one, Mel Gibson has one, the Naked Chef (we don't promote naked cooking) Jamie Oliver has one, but we'll bet you never knew what an advanced design is contained in something so simple: the AGA cooker. Culinary masters have long appreciated the even heat and bullet-proof durability of these cookers.
The name AGA has long been associated with good food and fine living, it’s no wonder we love AGA. It’s often thought of as quintessentially British; however AGA actually was created in Sweden. The renowned cooker found in over 800,000 households worldwide was invented by Dr Gustav Dalén, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist. It all started when the good doctor lost his eyesight due to an explosion in the lab (that’s right, you may want to think twice about giving junior that chemistry set). Bound to his home with his wife and their maid he was going out of his mind with how they constantly had to tend to their old-fashioned range. So Dalén set out to design a modern cooker that would look after itself while being something he could personally use although blind. And that’s just what he did with the creation of the AGA heat storage unit, a design that has remained relatively untouched through today. Soon after the Cooker’s creation, production moved to England in 1929 to the Coalbrookdale Foundry, a foundry in operation for over 300 years. It’s here where each AGA is handmade just for you.

What seemed like a simple design went on to become a design icon. In the year 2000, BBC published a retrospective of the 20th Century highlighting the top three design icons: first was the Coca-Cola contour bottle, second was the VW Beetle, and third was the AGA cooker. Some say you can cook on the engine of a VW Beetle but we leave our roast chicken to the AGA.
The AGA Cooker comes in 3 sizes: 2-oven, 3-oven, or 4-oven. The handcrafted cast-iron unit works off of a radiant heat source so that means that you don’t have a harsh direct heat source drying out your food. How does that translate to your cooking? Simply it means juicier meats, more flavorful food, and, most importantly, it means keeping the beneficial nutrients in your food. And, with no flavor crossing, you can have rosemary, garlic chicken in the same oven as your chocolate chip cookies and your cookies will never know the difference.

CompanionThe AGA companion is the Mighty Mouse of the AGA-Range family. It’s small but it’s powerful. With 4 burners and 2 ovens packed into a small 24” package it can get done what other larger more expensive ranges can’t. The companion can be just that, a companion to the AGA Cooker, when it is configured next to the cooker for added options and convenience. Alone, it is a great choice for small kitchens or loft spaces. Available in all the 14 colors of the Cooker it can certainly make a Mighty bold statement.

WoodburningThe Artisan wood-burning cooker is unlike any other woodstove. A direct descendent of the AGA Cooker the Artisan shares many of the same qualities of the AGA Cooker but is powered by wood. Marketed in the US as an AGA Heartland Artisan it’s gentle, radiant heat is transferred through the internal cast iron structure, dispersing the heat evenly to the ovens and hotplates. By enveloping food in heat from all directions, flavors are sealed in without drying or cross-flavoring, so your freshly baked pie doesn’t taste like roasted beets. The Artisan comes in two of the AGA Cookers top colors black and cream.
